For this unit there will be three essay questions for you to focus on as you study cells. One of these essays will appear on the Cells Test at the end of the quarter.
- Describe the development of cell theory, from the first discovery of cells through the understanding of organelles and their function. Include a discussion of the scientists involved and the specific discoveries they each made.
- Compare and contrast the differences between prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells. Include in your discussion the role of organelles, the differences found in unicellular and multicellular cells, and the function of specialized cells.
- Discuss the structure of a cell membrane and how that structure allows the cell to maintain homeostasis. Include a description of the similarities and differences between active and passive transport, facilitated diffusion, and osmosis.
